How To Take Care Of Your Diamond Jewellery

2 Mins read

An engagement or wedding ring is one of your most precious jewelry items. It’s only obvious that you will do everything to keep it looking as good as new. You can use a good-quality jewelry cleaning solution at home. From taking it to a professional to removing it, your engagement ring care should be more than cleaning and polishing. Here are some jeweler-approved tips for maintaining your engagement ring and other diamond jewelry:

Go for professional cleanings.

Most jewelers provide free cleaning services. Not only will your jewelry be steam-cleaned, but it will be examined to make sure the prongs are in place and be checked for diamond scratches and loose stones. Experts advise that having a professional clean-up at least twice a year is a great way to keep your jewelry’s structural integrity and keep it as sparkling as the day you first got it.

Use only mild cleaning solutions.

The experts say if you want to wash your solitaire diamond at home, you must soak it in a mixture of lukewarm water and mild dishwashing liquid for about half an hour. Then gently scrub it with only a soft bristle toothbrush. Also, baking soda’s gentle, non-abrasive characteristics make it another great cleaner of metals and expensive stones. You must pour a little baking soda into the bowl and mix it well in warm water to make a soft paste. Then with your fingers, gently rub the paste on the stones. Rinse it in warm water and dry it with a cotton cloth.

Get insurance.

It’s good to have insurance coverage for diamonds. It is emotionally difficult to replace your original diamond engagement ring; it’s safe to know that in case you lose it, you won’t have financial losses. Also, getting insurance is very easy.

Stay away from chemicals.

Besides cleaning products, chemicals like perfume, soap, lotion, and shampoo can add some residue to the jewelry and diamond, which will cause damage. Remember to remove your ring before using these or any other products that may contain harmful chemicals.

Check the weather.

Like cold weather can harm your ring, hot weather can make your fingers expand, making your call uncomfortable. Either way, leaving your diamond ring at home when the temperature is bad outside is good. Keep away from rainwater that is often acidic due to air pollution. It will cause harm to your diamond.

Don’t be careless.

Many activities put your ring at a higher risk of losing it, like, for example, rowing. Or put your hands out of the car. Working at the basin without plugging it is also risky. Even many outdoor activities, like gardening, can make you lose your diamond ring. Thus, any situation that can make the ring dirty or even lost should be done by removing it. Do not carelessly risk something so expensive and important to you out of sheer carelessness.
